Arizona is trying to rekindle the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei pipeline that brought the Wildcats guards Miles Simon and Reggie Geary in the 1990s.

Stanley Johnson, rated a five-star Class of 2014 wing prospect by Rivals.com, told the Louisville Courier-Journal on Sunday that Arizona is one of five schools he will visit in the fall.

Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 226-pound player ranked as the nation’s No. 7 prospect by 247Sports.com, plans to take official visits to Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, Florida and Oregon. He will also take unofficial visits to USC and UCLA, according to the Courier-Journal.

Johnson has tentatively scheduled dates for some of his official visits: Arizona on Oct. 12 for the Wildcats’ Red-Blue game, Kentucky on Oct. 18 for Midnight Madness and Florida on Oct. 30. He is considering a Kansas visit the weekend of Oct. 4 for Late Night at the Phog, Kansas’ version of Midnight Madness.

Johnson said Oregon’s coaches want him to come the weekend of a big football game, so that visit date is still to be determined.

Johnson told the Courier-Journal that he will not commit until January unless on “one of those officials, that’s just, ‘Oh, God, I’ve got to have it.’”

The Wildcats might have potentially only Rondae Hollis-Jefferson as the lone returning wing player for the 2014-15 season if Aaron Gordon goes to the NBA after his freshman season. The UA also has former Mater Dei player Drew Mellon, a small forward who is a walk on. He will be a senior in 2014-15.
