Arizona’s high-profile Class of 2014 recruit Stanley Johnson will try for his fourth consecutive state title next Saturday when he leads Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei High School against Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O’Dowd.

During Johnson’s championship run with Mater Dei, he has defeated Arizona players Aaron Gordon and Elliott Pitts for state titles. Mater Dei defeated Gordon’s San Jose (Calif.) Archbishop Mitty last year and Elliott Pitts’ Concord (Calif.) De La Salle in 2011 when Johnson was a freshman.

Johnson may play another potential Arizona player next weekend. Bishop O’Dowd’s Ivan Rabb is a Class of 2015 power forward recruiting target for Sean Miller and the Wildcats. Bishop O’Dowd is also where Brandon Ashley played before he transferred to Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep for his senior season in 2011-12.

Mater Dei (34-0) advanced to the state title game by defeating Los Angeles Westchester 59-54 on Saturday night behind Johnson’s 19 points, including four from consecutive free throws in the final 22 seconds to seal the victory for the Monarchs. That must be music to the ears of Arizona fans. Yes, four consecutive free throws made.

Class of 2015 recruit Tyler Dorsey, a 6’4″ combo guard who has committed to Arizona, helped Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco to the California Division II state title game with a 72-55 win over Compton on Saturday. St. John Bosco plays Folsom Saturday in Sacramento for the state championship.

Dorsey contributed 20 points in St. John Bosco’s win over Compton.
