Southern Arizona State Boys Volleyball Championships

Former Catalina coach Heather Moore-Martin won the last two state boys championships and, in doing so, matched the total earned by Andrea Fyock of Catalina Foothills.

Championships have only been handed out since 1995 and Southern Arizona teams have won seven trophies. Salpointe came close twice in 2001 and 2011 and Rincon/UHS almost broke through in 2009.

Canyon del Oro’s Melva Lundy finished in second place three times and won it all in 1996.

The sport was added by the AIA due to pressure provided by high school male athletes at the time, mainly current Ironwood Ridge volleyball coach Bill Lang while he was a student at Canyon del Oro.
