Sometimes the recruiting ratings come close to being on target.

Arizona’s Anu Solomon and Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett, both redshirt freshmen from the Class of 2013, have evolved into two of the best quarterbacks in the nation. They were rated among the Top 10 dual-threat quarterbacks of that class by Rivals.com.

Solomon, of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, was rated No. 2 behind Washington backup Troy Williams, who started last week in place of the injured Cyler Miles against ASU. Barrett was rated No. 7 out of Wichita, Texas.

Williams, of Harbor City, Calif., was offered a scholarship by Arizona, but he never seriously considered the Wildcats.

Despite the fact that Solomon has led the 14th-ranked Wildcats to a 6-1 overall record (3-0 on the road), including a win at then-No. 2 Oregon, his name is not mentioned in the same sentence as the Heisman Trophy. Barrett has received that kind of attention.

Barrett has yet to lead the Buckeyes (6-1) to a victory over a Top 25 team.

Solomon leads Barrett in passing yards but Barrett is ahead in most of the statistical categories.

Whereas as Solomon has completed more passes (200) than Barrett has attempted (183), Barrett has more touchdown passes (21) than Solomon (20).

Barrett, playing in place of the injured Braxton Miller, is third in the nation in pass efficiency while Solomon is 35th.

Barrett is at 20-to-1 odds to win the Heisman, according to Las Vegas, while Solomon is not listed.
