Quick notes about Arizona’s offense with freshmen — quarterback Anu Solomon and running back Nick Wilson — leading the way in the backfield:
— Only once in Arizona football history has a quarterback thrown for at least 3,000 yards, running back rushed for at least 1,000 yards and receiver compiled at least 1,000 yards in a season. That happened only two years ago with Matt Scott (3,620 passing yards), Ka’Deem Carey (1,929 rushing yards) and Austin Hill (1,364 receiving yards).
Solomon has 2,816 passing yards, Wilson is at 763 rushing yards and Cayleb Jones is at 734 receiving yards. Never has an Arizona team had a 4,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard passer and 1,000-yard receiver.
Nick Foles had a school-record 4,336 yards passing in 2011, but incredibly no receiver went over 1,000 yards. Juron Criner finished with 956. Keola Antolin was Arizona’s leading rusher that season with 568 yards.
— Solomon continues to lead all freshmen in the nation with 2,816 yards passing, topping Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett (2,156) by 650 yards. With 184 more yards, he will become the fifth Arizona quarterback to reach 3,000 yards in a season, joining Nick Foles, Willie Tuitama, Matt Scott and Jason Johnson.
He is currently No. 7 on the season record list at Arizona. Here are the Top 7 totals:
