Pueblo High School: July 20-24
Former University of Arizona standout and current Indiana Pacer, Solomon Hill is holding his basketball camp this week. A Wildcat from 2009-2013, Hill was a coach at Joseph Blair’s summer basketball camp while attending the University of Arizona. His participation inspired him to give back to the community, who has supported him throughout his career.
“I’m happy to see that working my camp had an influence on Solomon but more importantly that the Southern Arizona community has impacted him enough to stay in his heart, his thoughts and his list of priorities,” Blair said.
Special guest coaches at the camp include Derrick Williams, former Wildcat and current Sacramento Kings and former Arizona basketball and softball and professional basketball standout Felecity Willis.
Willis was also a member of the Puerto Rican Women’s National Basketball Team and is currently a Division I referee.
This camp is presented by The Blair Charity Group’s Arizona Basketball Academy (ABA). According to a release, the ABA promotes social and physical well-being of youth and serves more than 1,000 youth annually:
“The ABA was started in 2000 to offer a professional basketball camp experience to youth that otherwise may not have the opportunity due to economic or social limitations. The camp focuses on teaching basketball skills as well as building social, leadership and life skills. Throughout the clinic we work with young people to build social skills, promote positive behaviors and cultivate tolerance by bringing together youth from different demographics and geographic backgrounds.”
70% of the campers are attending through scholarships provided to local nonprofit organizations.
Blair has been very visible in the community and, true to his word, he made it very clear to the campers on what he expected from them as he lectured them on character, behavior and getting to know the leaders in the community before they could start thinking about becoming better players.
