Our Arizona Wildcats Top 50 Football Games ranking is shown as a slideshow starting at No. 50 (click on “next” at the upper or lower right to get started) …

Every day we will have data related to the number of days remaining to kickoff — Texas-San Antonio vs. Arizona — on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. That game is only 29 days away.

Anthony Gimino compiled Arizona’s best player by jersey number while with TucsonCitizen.com three years ago. The best No. 29 is running back Fred Batiste (1949-50). He is from a legendary group of local athletic brothers. Fred was the first black football letterman at UA.

For the third straight year, AllSportsTucson.com presents the Arizona Wildcats’ Top 50 games in the program’s history.

The ranking corresponds to the number of days left to the opening kickoff for the Arizona Wildcats against Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. We are only 29 days from the start of the 2015 football season.

The ranking each year is based on new research and judgments for all games, not just those from last season. This year, four new games join the ranking, including one played more than 50 years ago that — upon further review — deserves Top 50 status. That game was presented at No. 38. The No. 1-ranked game last year may not be the No. 1 this year.

No. 29 on this year’s roster is Jarvis McCall Jr., a redshirt sophomore cornerback from Tampa, Fla. He played in and started 12 games at cornerback last year. He totaled 49 tackles and seven passes defended. He had a career-high seven tackles against Washington and two passes broken up against Oregon.

— The first game in Arizona Stadium was played against Cal Tech on Oct. 12, 1929. The Wildcats won 35-0.

— Arizona has scored 29 points in a game only 10 times in its history, with the most well-known of them a 29-0 drubbing of Miami in the 1994 Fiesta Bowl.

— The 29 points scored against New Mexico State in the third quarter when Art Luppino ran wild that night were the most in a quarter until the Wildcats scored 35 in the second quarter of a 70-0 win over Idaho in 2008.

— Luppino averaged a school-record 29.2 yards per return (kickoff and punt) in 1954.

— In Rich Rodriguez’s first season of 2012, Arizona averaged a school-record 29.3 first downs a game.
