Our Arizona Wildcats Top 50 Football Games ranking is shown as a slideshow starting at No. 50 (click on “next” at the upper or lower right to get started) …

Every day we will have data related to the number of days remaining to kickoff — Texas-San Antonio vs. Arizona — on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. That game is only 25 days away.

Anthony Gimino compiled Arizona’s best player by jersey number while with TucsonCitizen.com three years ago. The best No. 25 was Vance Johnson of Cholla High School before fellow Tucsonan Ka’Deem Carey of Canyon del Oro rewrote Arizona’s rushing records. Another Tucson product — David Eldridge of Pueblo — also shined wearing No. 25.

For the third straight year, AllSportsTucson.com presents the Arizona Wildcats’ Top 50 games in the program’s history.

The ranking corresponds to the number of days left to the opening kickoff for the Arizona Wildcats against Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 3 at Arizona Stadium. We are only 25 days from the start of the 2015 football season.

The ranking each year is based on new research and judgments for all games, not just those from last season. This year, four new games join the ranking, including one played more than 50 years ago that — upon further review — deserves Top 50 status. That game was presented at No. 38. The No. 1-ranked game last year may not be the No. 1 this year.

— Carey set the Arizona and Pac-12 record with 366 yards rushing on 25 carries against Colorado in 2012. He also scored five times.

— Arizona has scored the uncommon 25 points in a game only eight times, the last a 33-25 loss to Washington in 1999.

— Another accomplished running back, Trung Canidate, compiled a career 25 rushing touchdowns.

Austin Hill holds the Arizona record with 25.9 yards per reception, set against USC on Oct. 27, 2012. Hill had 10 catches for 259 yards.

Art Luppino’s career return average of 25.7 yards from 1953-56 is an Arizona record.

Ricky Elmore’s 25.5 career sacks ranks second in the Arizona record books behind Tedy Bruschi’s phenomenal 55. David Wood, father of current Arizona players Carter and Trevor Wood, is next with 25. In case you are wondering, Scooby Wright III has 14.5 career sacks, 14 of them last year.

Nick Foles riddled USC’s defense in 2011 with a school-record 25 first downs via the pass. Arizona ranked No. 8 nationall that year with 25.8 first downs per game.
