The Lumberjacks are truly a statewide team, comprised of 55 players from Arizona on their roster. The Wildcats list 40 players from Arizona. ASU has 27.

NAU’s list of in-state talent includes six players from Tucson:

— Redshirt freshman linebacker Jake Casteel, a former Salpointe Catholic standout who everybody knows by now is the son of Arizona defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel.

— Sophomore offensive guard Nick Davis, who is listed from Tucson but attended a high school in Florida before playing for the Gators in two games last year as a redshirt freshman. His father Tim, a former graduate assistant at Arizona in 1987, is the offensive line coach at NAU.

— Freshman safety Derik Hall, cousin of former Arizona safety Adam Hall, is with the Lumberjacks out of Sahuaro.

— Junior safety Devon McPeek, a standout from Mountain View, has appeared in six games in his three years at NAU.

— Freshman linebacker Taylor Powell, of Salpointe, had a brother (Jordan) who ran track at Arizona.

— Redshirt freshman cornerback Cole Sterns, of Sahuaro, has appeared in one game this year and recorded a tackle.
