Down 21-17 with 7:59 left, Cody Cropp engineered the high school version of “The Drive” Friday night. The senior quarterback guided Pusch Ridge 79 yards in 14 plays to defeat Flowing Wells 24-21 to all but claim the Division III/Section VI championship.
John Elway engineered the original version of “The Drive” almost 30 years ago but his drive included a balanced passing and rushing attack while Cropp found success by keeping the ball on the ground….

Salpointe (3-4, 1-1)
Cienega (1-6, 0-2) and Buena (0-7, 0-2) remarkably have a mathematical chance but a chance is a chance. Salpointe and Sahuaro need some help. Only a section title will get them in the playoffs.

Queen Creek (5-2, 2-0)
Ironwood Ridge (5-2, 1-1)
Canyon del Oro (2-5, 1-1)
Mountain View (5-2, 0-1)
Poston Butte (0-7, 0-1)
Queen Creek can win section next Friday with a win over CDO combined with a Mountain View victory over Poston Butte. This was not how the section was supposed to be played out.

Catalina Foothills (6-2, 3-1)
Marana (4-3, 2-1)
All three control their own destiny.

Pueblo can win section with one more win. The Warriors have a divisional game next week at Pusch Ridge so they will have to wait a couple of weeks.
