If Arizona wins the Pac-12 title this year, it could be Sean Miller’s best coaching job to date because most of his talent is not ranked high nationally among other players.
Last week, Sports Illustrated did not list freshman star Ray Smith, a former 5-star recruit, as one of the top small forwards in the nation.
SI published this morning its top 20 guards and Gabe York, Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Allonzo Trier, Justin Simon and Kadeem Allen — all of whom can have impact seasons for Arizona — are not listed.

David Gardner of SI included 10 senior guards in the ranking with no mention of York, who figures to have his most productive season of his career. Trier, Jackson-Cartwright, Simon and Allen have drawn raves from Arizona coaches for their past, present and future.
At least Kaleb Tarczewski is mentioned among the top 20 post players in a ranking published by SI.
It will be interesting if former All-ACC third-team selection Ryan Anderson gets a ranking among the top 20 power forwards. Anderson, formerly of Boston College, will certainly be one of the most influential transfers playing in Division I.
At any rate, Miller and Arizona figure to be dangerous with some of their players overlooked in the rankings. Athletes love to harp on getting respect and proving the haters wrong. Well, the Wildcats certainly have some fodder with these position ratings.
