Compiling off-the-beaten-path storylines of Arizona’s game with Washington State tomorrow at Arizona Stadium while wondering how the Pac-12’s lowest-ranking rushing game has developed a trendy, likable nickname in Pullman …

ARIZONA FACING EARTH, WIND AND FIRE

Washington State ranks 125th out of 127 FBS in rushing with only 86.8 yards a game yet its three top running backs have developed a nickname: Earth, Wind and Fire. And it’s not because they can sing.

Redshirt sophomores Jamal Morrow and Gerard Wicks and redshirt freshman Keith Harrington have become known as Earth, Wind and Fire by Washington State running backs coach Jim Mastro.

Why are the Cougars boasting about what appears to be a meager rushing attack?

They have already posted three 100-yard games this season after recording four 100-yard efforts the previous three seasons.

Each player has had a breakout game this year with Wicks leading the way with 288 rushing yards while also having 23 receptions.

When you’re playing the elements, Arizona, tread with caution.

Mike Leach most likely will utilize the running game against an injury-depleted Arizona defense in order to keep the pressure off quarterback Luke Falk
