Catalina Foothills senior Katie Watson committed to run cross country and track for Saint Mary’s College of California. The Division I program is located just east of Oakland. Watson had an official visit to the school over fall break and was offered an athletic scholarship.

“Saint Mary’s is an amazing school with outstanding coaches and athletes,” Watson said. “I’m honored to join them next fall and become a Gael!”

Watson started out as a championship tennis player for the Falcons before picking up running for the school less than two years ago. She helped lead Catalina Foothills to back-to-back tennis state championships in 2013 and 2014.

On May 10, 2014, she participated in both the tennis and track state finals (3 hours apart in Glendale and Mesa respectively), and both teams won the title. She also helped the cross country team win the state crown last November.

Watson has a 4.13 GPA and recently broke the school 5K record (18:38). She will focus on running her senior year and her sophomore sister, Abby Watson, will play tennis. As a freshman, Abby and senior Kirtana Bhat won the doubles state championship title.
