The weekly “Sports Guys” show at Rivals.com touches on Arizona hoops topics this week with interesting takes from Matt Moreno, Steve Rivera and Anthony Gimino.

One of the more interesting topics centers around who will Sean Miller start at point guard for Arizona — sophomore Parker Jackson-Cartwright or junior college transfer Kadeem Allen?

“My guess is that he’s going to go with the junior college transfer, Allen,” Rivera said. “Better defensively. Probably had his way (in practice) probably better than Parker.”

Moreno: “(Miller) mentioned it will be split minutes and that’s probably what’s going to happen anyways. But starting, he’s kind of going to error on the side of the older guy, the guy who has some experience, and I think it will be Kadeem Allen too.”

Gimino: “I’ll make it three … the thing Sean talked about Kadeem Allen is defense.”

As far as the starting lineup Miller will employ against Chico State tomorrow night at McKale Center? (Keep in mind senior center Kaleb Tarczewski will likely not play because he is nursing an ankle injury).

Moreno: “It would have to be Dusan (Ristic at center and) Ryan Anderson (at power forward). I think maybe you have to go with Elliott Pitts (at small forward). He’s been here the longest and like I said I think Sean’s going to go with guys who have been around and have been through the battles.”

Completing the starting lineup will likely be senior Gabe York at shooting guard and Allen at point guard. The top reserves will be Mark Tollefsen (at power forward and , Jackson-Cartwright and Allonzo Trier.

Perhaps as the season goes on when Miller is mixing and matching his players, Trier may start at small forward when in need of offense.

“If Sean’s got somebody like Allonzo Trier at the three (small forward), where he’s boosting his offense maybe in favor of defense, then you want to balance it out,” Gimino reasoned with Allen at point guard. “If you have Elliott Pitts at the three who is one of his better defenders on the perimeter than maybe Elliott’s in there with Parker.”

Rivera: “Well, that’s your mad scientist.”

Miller the Mad Scientist … sounds scary for opponents, doesn’t it?
