There are two things that Arizona fans can count on every year when it comes to the Wildcats’ football team: They will lose to someone that they shouldn’t and that they will pull off an upset that no one saw coming.
Ever since the beginning of the Mike Stoops era, Arizona pulls off a big upset pretty much every season. Last year, they beat Oregon in Eugene, Ore. In 2013, Arizona drummed Oregon at home. In 2012, the Cats beat No. 10 USC at home. You get the point. Arizona pulls off a lot of upsets.
That brings me to this year. Arizona has struggled to say the least and No. 10 Utah comes to town on Senior Night. Arizona currently is only a 6-point underdog against the one of the Top 10 teams in the nation, which says more than you might think.
The people making those lines know sports better than most. They make a living correctly predicting games. For example, when Utah went to USC, the Trojans were a 7-point favorite against a top three team in the nation at the time. USC pulled off the upset. With Arizona only being a 6-point underdog, the oddsmakers think Arizona has a realistic chance to win.
Senior night is an emotional night for everyone. These seniors have worked their tails off for four to five years and Saturday will be the last time they wear that Arizona uniform at home.
That alone will have Arizona playing inspired football. The last time Arizona played a top ten team (No. 5 Oregon in 2013) on Senior Day, Arizona ran away with it and we were officially introduced to a guy named Scooby Wright.
I am not saying Arizona is going to win the game but I do believe it will be closer than most experts are predicting. Anything can happen in a close game with high emotion.
