A year ago this week, Allonzo Trier scored 50 points to lead Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep to an 82-68 victory over Phoenix Westwind Prep.
He made 18 of his 32 field goal attempts and converted 13 of 15 free-throw attempts at the small Findlay Prep gym.
Last night, for the first time, the 14,000 in attendance at McKale Center caught a glimpse of that dominant Trier, whose performance against Bradley in a 90-60 win was similar to that against Westwind Prep when rationalizing the minutes played.
Trier was given free reign to shoot at Findlay and played substantial minutes no matter how large of margin the Pilots were beating their opponents. Last night against Bradley, Trier posted 22 points in only 23 minutes on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and a phenomenal 14-of-14 from the free throw line.

From shooting 32 times in a game at Findlay to trying only five at Arizona in what will go down as one of his best games of the season?
If Trier played 75 percent of the game — a modest 30 minutes — he would have finished with about 29 points. In 35 minutes, the result would have been close to 33 points. A full 40 minutes: About 38 points and Pac-12 player of the year status.
What does all of this mean?
Although playing within a structured system at Arizona in which his McDonald’s All-American credentials are left at the doorstep of the practice facility, Trier showed against Bradley that he can make the most of his minutes similar to how he performed in a more expansive role with Findlay.
His productivity rating of 1.870 (43 productivity points in 23 minutes) is one of the best since I’ve compiled the numbers in the last three years.
If Trier is consistent with the production and Ryan Anderson continues to with his high production rate (team-leading 1.288 after two games), Arizona will have the components of an inside-outside, attack-the-basket combination that opponents will find difficult to defend.
Another promising sign for Sean Miller: Reserve center Dusan Ristic has shown in the first two games that coming off the bench and averaging 16.5 minutes is not bothersome. He has bought in and is fourth on the team in productivity (.818 rating) behind Anderson, Trier (1.000) and Kadeem Allen (.868).
HOW ARE THEY DOING?
Present RPI ranking of non-conference opponents Arizona has played. The Wildcats’ RPI rating is No. 41. Their next opponent, Boise State (1-1) has an RPI of No. 236.
