Basha wins Salpointe Tipoff Classic, Jacob Inclan named MVP

Cameron Miller sank a 3-pointer to pull Salpointe to within 18-17 of Basha to start off the second quarter but the Bears went on a 14-0 run to break the game open, ultimately pulling away for a  80-60 victory Saturday night.

The win was Basha’s first Salpointe Tipoff Classic championship since 2008.

Basha led by as many as 22 points in the third quarter but the Lancers battled back to cut the lead down to 59-47 in the opening moments of the fourth but the Bears went on a 11-0 run to put the game out of reach for good.

Salpointe (4-1) was led by Miller (18 points). Isaac Cruz and Majok Deng scored 12 points each. Basha (5-0) was led by Antwan Ross-Jones (25 points) with Gabe McGlothan adding 18 and Austin Picarello scoring 13.

Desert Mountain (4-1) held off Sunnyside (3-2) in the third place game.

George Lee led all scorers with 28 points. The Blue Devils were led by Jacob Inclan (24 points) with Cesar Ozuna scoring 13 and Carlos Lozoya adding 12.

Inclan was voted the Tournament MVP by the coaches.
