Arizona used a box-and-one defense to shut down USC guard Harold Miner. Averaging 28 points in his last three games, the freshman was held to 13 points as he missed eight of 12 shots from the floor. Matt Muehlebach checked Miner with help from Wayne Womack and forward Jud Buechler.
No. 44: 2/10/90, 83-74 win over UCLA
Sean Rooks scored 24 points and hauled in eight rebounds, leading Arizona to a victory over rival UCLA, increasing it’s nation’s-best home win streak. Buechler contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Bruins lost despite 26 points and 12 rebounds from Don MacLean.
No. 45: 2/15/90, 71-50 win over ASU
Arizona held ASU to only 26.8 percent shooting from the field while setting a school record with 13 blocked shots behind the Tucson Skyline of Brian Williams (five blocked shots), Rooks (three) and Ed Stokes (three). Muehlebach made five three-pointers, four in the first half.
