Alexis Cortez now 8th on the career scoring list

Cortez is only 47 points away from the number seven spot which is currently held by former Cibola and NAU standout Alyssa Wahl (2,366). Wahl went on to become the career scoring leader at NAU (1,678) and helped lead the program to it's only NCAA appearance. (NAU PHOTO)

Tucson High senior Alexis Cortez is continuing her climb up the career scoring list for the state of Arizona. The East Carolina commit is now eighth on that list with 2,319 career points. With four regular season games remaining and possibly a sectional game and a state playoff game in the mix, ending in the top five is within reach.

The fifth spot is occupied by former Mountain Pointe standout Nicole Powell (2,478 career points). The Republic named Powell the “Player of the Century.” Powell went on to play for Stanford, was a member of Team USA, played in the WNBA and is now an assistant coach at Oregon…
