Arizona softball head coach Mike Candrea won his 1,458th career game, surpassing legendary Fresno State coach Margie Wright for second in NCAA history, as Arizona defeated Stanford 6-1 on Saturday. Candrea, in his 31st year of coaching, is now chasing Michigan’s Carol Hutchins for the NCAA record. Hutchins, who has coached for 34-plus years, broke Wright’s long-standing record two weeks ago. Candrea currently trails Hutchins by five victories.

Arizona’s baseball team goes for a sweep of Stanford today at Hi Corbett at 1:05 p.m. The Wildcats will go for their second consecutive sweep of the Cardinal. The Wildcats swept Stanford last season on the road. Arizona has won the first two games by 4-1 scores behind the pitching of Nathan Bannister and Cameron Ming. Arizona is 22-13 overall and in sixth place in the Pac-12 at 7-7.

Hard to believe at this time two years ago, Stanley Johnson was in high school. Today, he’ll be playing in an NBA playoff game against LeBron James.

After toiling with some bad teams with New York, Phoenix and Orlando, nice to see Channing Frye getting a realistic chance at an NBA title this year.
