Kelsey Jenkins

Wisconsin sophomore Kelsey Jenkins (Sabino) was named first-team All-Big Ten on Wednesday.

Jenkins was the first freshman at Wisconsin to earn first-team honors in 2015, she becomes the program’s 11th first-team All-Big Ten selection and just the third two-time honoree in school history. Jenkins led the Badgers with a .411 batting average and a .423 batting average in conference-only games.

Jenkins shattered the Wisconsin single-season walks record that she set last season and leads the conference with 49 walks, which also ranks seventh in the nation. Her .571 on-base percentage is second in the Big Ten and seventh in the country. She leads UW with 16 multiple-hit games and has reached base safely in 38 consecutive games, double the amount what any other player on the team has. Jenkins leads the Badgers in eight other categories: including batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.571), runs scored (49), hits (60), home runs (7), walks (49), stolen bases (15) and steal attempts (20).

Mattie Fowler

A fifth-year senior at Nebraska, Mattie Fowler (Canyon del Oro) is enjoying her best season with the Big Red.

Fowler is batting .338 with six doubles, three homers and 38 RBIs, setting career highs in nearly every offensive category. In conference play, Fowler batted .329 and drove in 20 runs in Nebraska’s 22 Big Ten games. She has also excelled defensively, as she is perfect at first base in 388 chances this season. She is bidding to become only the second Husker to post a 1.000 fielding percentage in a minimum of 150 chances. Earning second-team All-Big Ten accolades and a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive team continues an impressive awards haul for Fowler, who earned first-team academic all-district accolades for the second straight year. Fowler was named the 2015-16 Nebraska Female Student-Athlete of the Year and a 2016 Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient.

This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but college and professional awards. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS.
