CATCH UP ON THE COUNTDOWN BY VISITING: ARIZONA’S TOP 100 INDIVIDUAL RECORDS
Only 92 days separate us from the start of Rich Rodriguez’s fifth season at Arizona, when the Wildcats play Brigham Young on Sept. 3 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
As is customary on this Web site, we will count down the days with an interesting element associated with each day. This year the topic is the top 100 individual records in Arizona’s storied football past.
Compiling the list was no easy task, but it was feasible to do with the information provided in the record books by the Arizona media relations department, and we appreciate that.
In past years, we have counted down the top games and highlighted players and some of the top plays in Wildcat history. A couple of years ago in our top 100 countdown, we showcased the 1914 team that was responsible for Arizona becoming the “Wildcats”.

No other Arizona quarterback has thrown for and rushed for as many touhdowns in a season than what Matt Scott achieved in 2012.

Most TDs/Points Responsible For (TDs scored and passed for) Season: Matt Scott, 33/202, 2012
Matt Scott redshirted at the right time under former coach Mike Stoops otherwise his name would not appear on this list. The quarterback agreed to wait for his shot while redshirting in 2011 when Nick Foles completed his career. Saving himself parlayed into a successful cap to a career with Stoops’ replacement after he was fired — Rich Rodriguez — who values a mobile, athletic quarterback to run his spread read-option no-huddle offense.
An indication of Scott’s versatile skill set is evident with this record. His 33 touchdowns scored in 2012 (27 via the pass and six with the run) stands as a school record, one that should be broken by another do-everything quarterback Rodriguez is known to attract. His 202 points overall that season are the most for an Arizona quarterback (27 TD passes, six TD runs and two two-point conversion passes).
Scott, beset by concussion issues late his senior season, last played in the Canadian Football League at the end of the 2014 season.
