Ephrata, Washington: Aug. 6-13

Kino Pro Hammer (2-0) beat Wayne County, Mo. (Midwest Plains) 3-2 in 15 innings in the second round of the Babe Ruth Baseball 18U World Series held in Ephrata, Washington this week.

Down 1-0 in the top of the seventh, and being challenged by Missouri pitcher Trey McDaniel who struck out 11, with two outs, Kino strung together three straight hits with the key hit from Mountain View standout Danny Perez who doubled home Manny Murillo (Amphi) who got the rally started with a single to left field.

Kino went ahead 2-1 in the top of the 12th, but Missouri tied it at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning.

Neither team could mount much in the 13th, 14th innings, but in the top of the 15th with one out, Brandon Ortiz (Sahuaro) singled to left and advanced to second on an error. With two outs, Murillo came through again for Kino with a single that plated Ortiz to take a 3-2 lead.

Matt Baker (Ironwood Ridge) shut down Missouri retiring the side in order in the bottom of the 15th to preserve the win for Kino Pro Hammer. Murillo went 3-for-6.
