First off, I applaud the Coyotes organization for not taking a blank version of their uniforms and slapping the Roadrunners’ logo over it. This is a mistake made by many NHL teams, see the LA King’s affiliate, the Ontario Reign.

While it is important for AHL teams to be easily identifiable with their NHL affiliates, it is important that a team has its own identity and that starts with the uniforms. The Roadrunners have found a great balance as their colors clearly indicate their association with the Coyotes, while also giving them a unique, clean jersey design with subtle copper accents.

Although some fans called for a return to the old blue, gold, black and white color scheme used by various Phoenix Roadrunners teams, Tucson’s uniforms could not have turned out any better. As with all other AHL teams, white will be the home jersey and dark will be used on the road.

The Roadrunners open their season Fri., Oct. 14 on the road against San Diego and will have their home opener Fri., Oct. 28 against the Stockton Heat.
