Two days ago, Ironwood Ridge graduate Alex Bowman was cleared by the infield care center at Phoenix International Raceway after a valve stem issue caused his Xfininty race to end early when he slammed into the turn three wall on the 55th lap. Bowman finished 38th that night.

On his very next outing, Bowman started the day in pole position for the very first time in his career and led the field for much of the day when he got into the Hendrick Motorsports Nationwide 88. Bowman has been filling in for Dale Earnhardt Jr, who suffered a concussion in June and his racing season was called to an end. Bowman has done so well filling in for Earnhardt in eight races (including two top 10 finishes), that many racing fans have called for racing teams to give him a full cup ride in the 2017 racing season.

Alex Bowman earned the pole position for the first time in his career and finished 8th at Phoenix International Raceway.

“I just can’t thank everybody at Hendrick Motorsports enough. To do this in Phoenix, so close to home, means so much to me. We have had such fast race cars, we haven’t had an ounce of luck, but to get a pole here means a lot,” Bowman told Jordan Bianchi of sbnation.com.
