Tucson high student Delaney Schnell committed to the University of Arizona back in August and she made it official by signing on this week.
Schnell is member of the USA National Team and she competed in the Junior World Championships and the Pan American Games. Schnell also took sixth in the platform event at 2016 Diving Olympic Trials.
Schnell competes for the Tucson Diving Team and her club coach, Omar Ojeda, is also the diving coach for Arizona.
“It feels amazing to be a Wildcat!” Schnell said. I didn’t always think that I wanted to go to U of A. I always said I wanted to leave Tucson, but when choosing a college became reality I knew that Arizona is where I belong. I love Tucson and the community I live in! I just couldn’t picture myself anywhere else!”
Schnell won the AIA Division I diving championship as a freshman for Tucson High but then focused on her international career.
“I am extremely proud of Delaney! I left it up to her where she wanted to dive for college as she had other offers, but she has been proud of representing Tucson,” her mother Cindy told me.
“She started young running many local running races with Southern Arizona Roadrunners and they have become a big part of her family as they watched her grow and compete! I supported whatever she chose! I love my kids and proud of each of them all! Super excited to watch her next year dive for the U of A!”
