Arizona Wildcats to host NAU in opener next season

It was reported at FBSchedules.com today that the Arizona Wildcats have completed their 2017 non-conference football schedule.

Arizona opens the 2017 season at home on Sept. 2 against NAU. The Lumberjacks, who generally play in Tucson every other year, last visited Arizona Stadium in 2015. They are 1-13 overall against the Wildcats.

The week after playing NAU, Arizona will host the Houston. The Cougars will features a new head coach after Tom Herman accepted the same position at Texas last weekend.

The matchup with Houston is part of a home-and-home series that concludes at TDECU Stadium on Sept. 8, 2018.

Arizona’s third and final non-conference game in 2017 is on the road at UTEP on Sept. 16. The Wildcats have faced the Miners 51 times and currently lead the series 38-11-2.

Based on the Pac-12 schedule rotation, Arizona next season will host Oregon State, UCLA, Utah and Washington State and travel to California, Colorado, Oregon, USC and ASU. The Wildcats do not play Stanford or Washington in the regular season the next two years.

Arizona, coming off a 3-9 season, will also face a new coach in its game at Oregon. Mark Helfrich was fired tonight after enduring a 4-8 record in his fourth season.

The 2017 Pac-12 football schedule should be released in January.
