Ironwood Ridge student Freddy Ortega announced his commitment to play for Minot State.
“I gave all my trust in God I know he has a plan for all of us!” Ortega said. “After speaking with Coach (Scott) Eul I knew it was a great fit, considering many great schools and programs, I felt that going to Minot State University was a great opportunity. Also, MSU has a new coaching staff, great facilities and support for their student athletes. I am very excited to further my education and baseball career there next year.
“My family was by my side and pushing me the whole way! I love them for their great support and guidance they’ve given me. I’m grateful to have parents like them! I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without them. My dad taught me everything I know about the game and how to be a great man. He has prepared me for these moments and helped me achieved these goals. Proverbs 14:23.”
Ortega ran track for Ironwood Ridge last year and competes for the West Coast Guapos baseball club. Ortega credits track coach Manny Padilla for increasing his speed and football coach Matt Johnson for increasing his size and strength.
