HOOPS PLAY-IN: Mountain View, Sahuaro & Benson advance

In boys’ basketball action, No. 13 Mountain View came back from a first-half deficit to beat No. 20 Carl Hayden 59-53 in a 5A play-in game held in Marana Friday night. The Falcons led 24-11 with 7:12 left in the second quarter and 32-24 at the half….

No. 16 Sunnyside lost to No. 17 Mesa 60-40 in the 6A play-in game. The Blue Devils finished 18-11 on the year with a 6A Southern Region championship in head coach Jimmy Rosthenhausler’s first year with the program.

No. 11 Sahuaro beat No. 22 Queen Creek 42-40 in the other 5A play-in game to advance to the 5A bracket to be announced Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.

In girl’s hoops action, Desert Christian lost to Chandler Prep 40-30 in a 2A play-in game while
Benson beat Horizon Honors 48-47. Despite a difficult year, the Eagles took second in the 2A South Region to make the play-in tournament.
