No. 1 Coronado 4, No. 3 Salpointe 3 (5-3 PKs)

4A GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP at Williams Field
No. 4 Salpointe 4, No. 2 Thunderbird 0

Top-seeded Coronado held on to defeat No. 3 Salpointe 4-3 in the 4A state championship match held at Williams Field Saturday afternoon. The two teams went to PKs after surviving through 110 minutes of two overtime periods and two “Golden Goal” periods. The Dons outscored the Lancers 5-3 in the PK round to win the second state championship in program history….

….Seeded fourth this year with an 18-3-2 record, Salpointe came in and beat No. 2 Thunderbird 4-0 in a game that was never in doubt.

Kate Connelly put Salpointe up 1-0 in the 17th minute, Kalista Kakou found Catalina Alvarado in the 45th, Paloma Teran scored in the 60th and Kakou found the net in the 77th…..
