Former Arizona Wildcats forward Ashley performs well in NBA summer league game

Former Arizona Wildcats forward Brandon Ashley had a good performance in Dallas’ first game of the Orlando NBA Summer League Monday afternoon.

Ashley, a 6’9″ forward, had nine points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field in 24 minutes in Dallas’ 86-76 win over Orlando. He made his only 3-point attempt.

Ashley pulled down eight rebounds and had two steals.

Ashley is coming off a season in which he didn’t play because of a contract issue with Alba Berlin, of whom he finished the 2015-16 season for after starting that year with the Texas Legends of the D-League (the Mavericks’ affiliate).

Ashley did not return to Germany. Alba Berlin owned his rights for the 2016-17 season and another team had to pay a significant fee to sign him away. Ashley worked out at home in northern California awaiting another opportunity this season.

In Monday’s game, Ashley did have a dubious defensive moment while trying to guard Marcus George:

Ashley next plays Tuesday at noon Tucson time when the Mavericks face the Pacers. The game will be live on NBA TV.
