Sahuaro’s Brown taking part in Oakland charity hoops tournament

One of a few talented freshmen playing high school basketball in Southern Arizona is showing her skills this weekend at the 11th Annual McGowan Coaches Classic at Merritt College in Oakland, Calif.

Sahuaro’s Alyssa Brown is partaking in the charity event that showcases young talent. She is part of the Fresh Faces AZ team playing in the two-day tournament that concludes today. Only selected Class of 2021 players were invited to participate.

Brown reportedly has played well, showing off her ball-handling skills as a 5’11” guard.

She has some Arizona hoops lineage in her blood. Her great grandfather, Gene Moore, played basketball for the Wildcats in the 1971-72 season.

Ahidali Dehuelbes (Tucson), Cameron Doty (Sabino) and Cameron Rhodes (Sabino) are also taking part.
