CIENEGA QB JAMARYE JOINER

Arizona commit Jamarye Joiner continues to do his best Khalil Tate imitation with the unbeaten Bobcats.

Joiner compiled 322 yards passing and 245 on the ground to lead Cienega to a thrilling 38-35 win over visiting Marana last night in a Class 5A quarterfinal game.

Joiner scored on an 80-yard TD run and made scoring strikes to Terrell Hayward of 44 yards and Terrell Huggins for 26 yards. The TD pass to Huggins put the Bobcats ahead 38-21 near the end of the third quarter.

Joiner has passed for 2,090 yards and rushed for 1,274 yards. He has an incredible 23 touchdown passes and 18 scoring runs this season.

No. 9 MARANA (9-3) at No. 1 CIENEGA (12-0)
— Cienega wins 38-35 FINAL
— Cienega advances to the semifinals, where it will face No. 4 Notre Dame Prep (12-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Mountain View High School in Marana. Notre Dame Prep defeated No. 5 Queen Creek 34-31 last night.
— Cienega QB Jamarye Joiner compiled 322 yards passing and 245 on the ground to lead the Bobcats to the victory.
— Marana QB Trenton Bourguet rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two others.
— Joiner scored on an 80-yard TD run and made TD throws to Terrell Hayward of 44 yards and Terrell Huggins for 26 yards. The scoring strike to Huggins put the Bobcats ahead 38-21 near the end of the third quarter.
— Bourguet completed two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter — 24 yards to Kieson Simmons and 18 to Tariq Jordan — to have the Tigers pull within 38-35 with about a minute remaining in regulation. Huggins recovered the onside kick to secure the win for Cienega.
— In addition to his five PATs Ezra Figueroa nailed an important 42-yard field goal in the first half.
— Hayward also had a 2-yard scoring run for the Bobcats.

No. 6 IRONWOOD RIDGE (8-4) at No. 3 Liberty (11-1)
— Liberty wins 42-28 FINAL
— Ironwood Ridge QB Heath Beemiller cut the lead to 35-28 with 4:50 left on a 1-yard TD run.
— RB Nick Brahler put Ironwood Ridge up 21-14 late in the second quarter.
— Beemiller also threw a 23-yard TD pass to WR Noah Pallanes.
— Ironwood Ridge’s Nathan Grijalva opened the scoring with a 2-yard TD run.

CLASS 4A

No. 5 Cactus (9-3) at No. 4 SALPOINTE (11-1)
— Salpointe wins 49-14 FINAL
— The Lancers have outscored playoff opponents Pueblo and Cactus by a combined score of 91-14.
— They advance to the semifinals to play top seed Sunrise Mountain (12-0) in the semifinals on Friday at Ironwood High School in Glendale at 7 p.m. Sunrise Mountain defeated Cactus Shadows 49-13 last night.
— RB Bijan Robinson had a 57-yard TD run to start the scoring against Cactus on Friday.
— RB Mario Padilla scored on a 4-yard TD run.
— DB Zander Alvarado scored on a fumble return for a touchdown in the first quarter.
— Robinson added touchdown runs of 22 and 2 yards in the second quarter.
— RB Langston Hampton scored on a 16-yard TD run to close the scoring in the first half.

CLASS 3A

QUARTERFINALS

No. 8 Northwest Christian (9-3) at No. 1 PUSCH RIDGE (12-0)
— Pusch Ridge wins 42-6 FINAL
— The Lions have dominated in the playoffs so far outscoring Wickenburg and Northwest Christian by a combined score of 109-6.
— They advance to the semifinals to face No. 4 Benjamin Franklin (11-1) on Saturday at Salpointe Catholic at 6:30 p.m. Benjamin Franklin outlasted Sabino 35-31 last night.
— Pusch Ridge QB Christian Fetsis completed a 39-yard TD pass to Gavin Davis and also rushed for a 41-yard score in the first half.
— RB Mitch Maas scored on 4-yard TD run for the Lions.
— RB Tamerat Mcleod scored on runs of 13 and 41 yards for Pusch Ridge as well as make six PATs.
— RB Dakota Haynes rushed for a 16-yard TD run to cap the scoring for the Lions.

No. 5 SABINO (9-3) at No. 4 Benjamin Franklin (11-1)
— Benjamin Franklin wins 35-31 FINAL
— Sabino QB Alex Bell completed 16 of 28 pass attempts for 219 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
— Bell also rushed for a touchdown.
— Sabino RB Isaiah Smotherman gained 71 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown run.
— WR Luke Moran had six catches for 65 yards with a touchdown for the Sabercats.

CLASS 2A

QUARTERFINALS

No. 5 Scottsdale Christian (10-3) at No. 4 Santa Cruz Valley (11-0)
— Santa Cruz Valley wins 47-12 FINAL
— The Dust Devils advance to the semifinals to play top-seeded Round Valley on Saturday at Fountain Hills High School at 6:30 p.m. Round Valley defeated Morenci 45-7 last night.
— RB Alec Wyble-Meza had three touchdown runs of 48, 19 and 4 yards to lead Santa Cruz Valley.
— QB Jesus Cosillos completed a 62-yard pass to Curtis Banks for a TD.
— RB Raoul Perales added TD runs of 5 and 4 yards for SCV, which also had a 4-yard TD run by RB Curtis Banks.
