Tucson Conquistadores Weekly Prep Report

The first Tucson Conquistadores Weekly Prep Report leading up to the spring playoffs. All records are power-ranking records.

Taking a look at the top-10 ranked teams from each sport:

Nogales (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

BASEBALL

Flowing Wells (10-2) is ranked No. 5 in the 5A Division and the Caballeros are 3-0 in the 5A Sonoran Region.

Nogales (12-1) is the top-ranked team in 4A and the Apaches are 3-0 in the 4A Kino Region. No. 5 Canyon del Oro (10-2, 2-2), No. 6 Catalina Foothills (2-1, 10-1) and No. 9 Salpointe (9-5, 2-2) help make the Kino Region one of the toughest in the state.

Sabino (12-1, 7-0) is tops in the 3A Conference. No. 4 Sahuarita (9-2, 6-2) and No. 6 Catalina (10-2, 5-2) are all playing in the 3A South Region.

Bisbee (10-1, 7-1) is No. 2 in the 2A Conference and Willcox (9-2, 6-2) is No. 4.

No. 3 Baboquivari (10-2, 3-1), No. 4 St. David (6-3, 3-1) and No. 5 Valley Union (7-4, 3-2) make for another powerhouse region from Southern Arizona in the 1A ranks.

SOFTBALL

Ironwood Ridge (11-0, 4-0) finished the week ranked No. 1 in 5A. No. 5 Cienega (10-1, 3-1) is right there.

No. 2 Salpointe (11-2, 4-0) and No. 6 Canyon del Oro (8-2, 2-1) are tops from Southern Arizona in 4A play.

No. 8 Empire (8-3, 5-1) and No. 9 Sabino (8-3, 5-1) are steady in the 3A Conference.

No. 1 Benson (12-0, 6-0) is in control of the 2A Conference. No. 6 Willcox (9-2, 6-2) is close behind.

No. 5 Valley Union (6-2, 3-0) is the top 1A team from Southern Arizona.

Mountain View (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

No. 1 Mountain View (11-1), No. 4 Cienega (9-2), No. 6 Ironwood Ridge (7-3), No. 7 Salpointe (7-1) and No. 10 Sahuaro (8-3) make for an exciting 5A postseason run. Ironwood Ridge can win the 5A Sonoran Region with a win on Tuesday.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

No. 4 Salpointe (8-0) and No. 6 Ironwood Ridge (8-1) will play each other on Wednesday.

Preston Grammond (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

BOYS TENNIS

No. 1 Catalina Foothills (11-0) and No. 3 Salpointe (9-1) will meet on Tuesday. No. 5 Nogales (8-1) and No. 7 Ironwood Ridge (8-1) are the other top D-II teams from Southern Arizona.

Pusch Ridge (10-1) is No. 3 in D-III play and The Gregory School (11-0) is No. 10.

GIRLS TENNIS

No. 2 Rincon/University (11-0) is the highest ranked D-I team from Southern Arizona this spring.

No. 2 Catalina Foothills (10-0), No. 6 Nogales (9-1) and No. 7 Salpointe (8-2) are tops in D-II.

No. 6 Benson (7-3), No. 7 Pusch Ridge (9-2) and No. 9 Sahuarita (10-1) are the highest in D-III.

DIVISION III GOLF

No. 3 Desert Christian is led by No. 10 Johnny Gleason. Gleason signed with Colorado Christian on Friday.

TRACK & FIELD

The top marks for the state from Southern Arizona athletes:

Jamarye Joiner, Cienega: Long Jump (23-8)
Andrew Ference, Salpointe: Pole Vault (16-8)
Dejanae Wilmore, Onome Ugbisien, Jenica Bosko, Neysia Howard, Tucson: 4×100 (47.46)
