Student-Athlete of the Year nominations are open

Jacqueline Igulu (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

The Tucson Citizen profiled the city’s finest high school student-athletes from 1957 through 2008. While other local publications flirted with an “Athlete of the Week” section every now and then, the tradition of recognizing only the very best was continued only on the pages of the TucsonCitizen.com website.

We have continued this tradition at AllSportsTucson.com since 2014.

Each candidate will be judged on academics, athletics, leadership, service to their school and on a one-page essay on who influenced them most in their life.

Candidates must be seniors, graduating in 2018 from an AIA participating high school. Applications must come from the student-athlete. The application should address each of the points listed above, including an essay that will be published if chosen. No need for transcripts.

Last year, Palo Verde senior Jacqueline Igulu earned Student Athlete of the Year honors along with a $250 scholarship and Ironwood Ridge senior Tara Garcia earned an Outstanding Service honor along with a $100 scholarship. The scholarship has been raised to $300 this year. As always, the winner(s) will receive a free photo shoot.

The deadline to submit your application and essay is June 4, 2018.
