Arizona Wildcats get hot again, sweep UCLA

The Arizona Wildcats’ baseball team is hard to figure.

After losing five straight games, including a sweep at the hands of No. 2 Stanford at Hi Corbett Field a couple of weeks ago, Jay Johnson’s team has now won five straight games, including a sweep of No. 7 UCLA at Hi Corbett.

Arizona (28-17 overall, 10-11 Pac-12) capped the sweep with a 6-3 victory over the Bruins (30-13, 14-7). UCLA is now tied with Oregon State for second behind the Cardinal with three weekends remaining in the regular season.

Juan Aguilera improved to 6-0 pitching 6 1/3 solid innings, allowing only two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Arizona mustered only five hits, one of them a solo home run by Alfonso Rivas. Donta Williams also had an RBI triple, Seve Romo an RBI double and Cesar Salazar contributed an RBI single.

The Wildcats next host Grand Canyon on Tuesday night before heading to Berkeley, Calif., to start a three-game series against California starting Friday.

They then play at Sacramento State on May 14 before hosting ASU in a three-game series starting May 17. The regular season ends with a three-game series at Oregon starting May 24.
