Little League All-Stars Day 8 roundup: Four division titles up for grabs tonight

We are 84 games in and tonight is championship night with four divisions up for grabs. In 8-10 Baseball action, Oro Valley (3-0) can claim the division title with a win over Thornydale (4-1) at Arthur Pack.

Oro Valley has outscored its opponents 48-0 and Thornydale has had some close calls with a 10-9 win over Marana to qualify for the championship bracket and a 12-10 win over Tucson Mountain to advance to the semifinal game where they took care of Canyon View 18-7 Tuesday night at Arthur Pack.

Thornydale led 6-3 after three innings and 11-7 after four but errors started to mount and Thornydale pulled away for the 18-7 win and a shot at Oro Valley. Thornydale will have to beat Oro Valley twice under the double elimination format.

Brody Young picked up the win for Thornydale and Angel Figueroa finished the game. Ethan McQuade, Zach Schaefer, Johnny Abramian, Jake Kellman and Chase Cesarek took the mound for Canyon View. Oscar Quijada went 2-for-3 to help lead Thornydale and Figueroa went 2-4. Schaefer went 3-4 with a double to lead Canyon View and Isaac Kirkendall went 2-4.

Western (3-0) and Canyon View (5-1) are facing off in the 9-11 Baseball championship taking place at Mehl Park. Western sent Canyon View to the elimination bracket last Tuesday, June 19 and Canyon View has battled all the way back through four elimination games. Canyon View will have to beat Western twice.

Canyon del Oro (3-0) is going up against Western (5-1) in the Baseball Little League championship game at Kriegh Park. CDO beat Western 14-2 last Friday, June 22. Western has faced elimination three times and will have to beat CDO twice to win it all.

Tucson Mountain (2-0) is facing Marana (1-1) in the championship of the Softball Little League division at Arthur Pack. Tucson Mountain outlasted Marana 13-12 last night and Marana beat Canyon View 17-5 in the second game to set up the rematch with Tucson Mountain. Marana has to win twice to win the title.
