LITTLE LEAGUE: Sunnyside beat Western to take lead in Little League semifinal series

STATE 8-10 BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

Red Mountain beat Nogales National 11-1 Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all game Wednesday night at the state 8-10 Baseball tournament taking place at Freedom Park.

There are no regional tournaments for this age group.

STATE 9-11 BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

Queen Creek beat Rincon 13-3 Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all championship game of the 9-11 Baseball Tournament taking place in Mesa.

There are no regional tournaments for this age group.

STATE LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

Sunnyside beat Western 5-3 Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the Little League Baseball tournament taking place in Scottsdale. The team from Mission Manor has the upper hand in the best-of-three series. Cactus Foothills South beat Chandler National South 13-8 in the other semifinal.

INTERMEDIATE BASEBALL WEST REGION

No. 5 Alaska beat No. 4 Nogales 6-4 and No. 3 Hawaii beat No. 6 Western 12-6 Tuesday night at the 50/70 Intermediate Baseball Regional taking place in Nogales. Both local teams have been eliminated.

No. 1 Southern California will play Alaska and No. 2 Northern California will face Hawaii in the semifinal round set for Wednesday night.

JUNIOR BASEBALL WEST REGION

Nogales is headed to San Jose after winning the state Junior Baseball Tournament in Tempe. The West Region is slated to start on Saturday, July 28 and Nogales will take on Oregon on Sunday morning.
