Rattlers earn spot in Summer Swoosh Championships title game

Pueblo senior guard Summer Fox continued to spark the Tucson Rattlers on the defensive end, and also led them on offense tonight in a win that qualified them for the title game of the Summer Swoosh Championships tomorrow.

Fox had eight of the Rattlers’ 16 steals and also scored 16 points to lead the Rattlers to a 62-56 win over Seattle Stars Premier at Ladera Ranch, Calif. Fox also had six assists.

The Rattlers, 5-0 in the tournament and winners of 10 straight games dating to a Las Vegas tourney last week, will play in the title game of the Summer Swoosh Championships tomorrow at 11:45 a.m. against Oregon Elite.

Fox is averaging 4.8 steals in the Rattlers’ 16 games this month. They have a 15-1 record in those games with the lone loss a one-point setback in the title game of the Nike Tournament of Championships in Chicago.

Tanque Verde senior forward Nikya Orange had nine points and 11 rebounds in the win tonight. Ironwood Ridge senior guard Caroline Finster contributed eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Marana teammates Bella Muscoreil and Antoinette “Andy” Audiss each had eight points, and Ironwood Ridge teammates Bella Hamel and Makayla Holthaus each had six rebounds.

“Great all around team effort tonight with everyone contributing,” coach Chris Klassen said.
