Sunnyside falls to Hawaii to open up Little League action

LITTLE LEAGUE WEST REGION

Hawaii beat Sunnyside 7-3 Sunday to open up play at the Little League West Regional taking place in San Bernardino. Sunnyside will play Tuesday night in an elimination game.

Sunnyside gave up five runs in the top of the first and fell behind 7-0 before scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI from Diego Pinedo and two more in the fifth on an RBI from Cristobal Lorta and a wild pitch that scored Luis Soqui after he singled earlier in the inning.

Kaolu Holt and Sean Yamaguchi combined for 11 strikeouts, limiting Sunnyside to four hits with Angel Iriqui picking up the fourth. Pinedo and Jose Zepeda saw pitching action for Sunnyside and Zepeda finished with six strikeouts in relief.

Northern California plays Southern California tonight and the winner of that game will face Nevada on Monday. The loser of the Nevada game will face Sunnyside Tuesday night.

AMERICAN LEGION WEST REGION

Firebirds Post 7 is set to face Colorado to open up the American Legion West Region Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The tournament is taking place in Denver from Aug. 8-12.
