FOOTBALL: Opening kick in one week

Octavio Audry-Cobos took some early snaps for Ironwood Ridge in an open scrimmage against Tucson and Catalina Foothills Wednesday night. (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

Opening kickoff is one week away and it will be a good one with Ironwood Ridge visiting Mountain View next Thursday night, Aug. 16. There are no other games scheduled for that night so expect a few Phoenix-area media members to make the trip down.

The game is the first of 18 involving 26 teams from Southern Arizona, from 1A to 6A.

AllSportsTucson.com will also be handing out weekly “APS Player of the Week” awards in conjunction with Automated Presort Services. We are also voting members for the state-wide Ed Doherty Player of the Week and Player of the Year awards.

More on our Pigskin Picks next week.
