Pima Men and Women Hoops Teams Win Big

The Pima Commmunity College men’s and women’s teams each came away with meaningful wins against Tohono O’odham Community College’s teams last night in Sells.

The Pima women’s team (5-6, 2-4 ACCAC DII) defeated Tohono O’odham (7-7, 3-3) big, 97-53. The 17th-ranked Aztec men (7-3, 4-2) routed the Jegos (1-13, 0-6) by a score of 113-69 for their third consecutive win.

The Aztec men took a 60-33 lead at halftime and went on to outscore the Jegos 53-36 in the second half.

Freshman Rashad Smith (Chandler Hamilton High School) fell just short of a triple-double as he finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. Sophomore Abram Carrasco (Cholla) also had 22 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds.

Sophomore Kennedy Koehler (Henderson, NV, Coronado) finished with his ninth straight double-double. He had 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Davonte Eason (Tucson High) posted 17 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Robert Wilson (Salpointe Catholic) contributed 14 points and six boards.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host the Benedictine University Developmental Team at 3:00 p.m.

The Aztec women outscored Tohono O’odham 29-7 in the second quarter to take a 42-17 lead at the break.

Freshman Hallie Lawson (Gilbert Campo Verde) finished with a team-high 29 points to go along with five rebounds.

Sophomore Jacqulynn Nakai (Flagstaff Coconino) finished with 24 points and seven assists. She has scored more than 20 points in eight of the first 11 games this season.

Sophomore Shauna Bribiescas (Mesa Dobson) had 11 points and eight rebounds while freshman Alyssa Perez (Marana) contributed with 11 points.

The Aztecs are off until the Bruce Fleck Classic from Dec. 31-Jan. 2 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Their first game will be against Bismarck State College on Dec. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
