BASKETBALL: Sabino Holiday Classic Results

Sabino Boys Holiday Classic
Dec. 27-28

Sabino went 4-0 at the Holiday Classic including a 77-75 win over Queen Creek Casteel on Thursday. Casteel finished 3-1 at the two-day tournament but it took a 101-98 double overtime victory over Amphitheater on Friday to get the three wins. The Panthers also finished 3-1.

Sahuaro also went 3-1, with a 55-41 loss to Amphitheater, and Palo Verde finished 3-1 with an 85-65 loss to Sabino.

The round-robin tournament was designed to give each team a chance to play nonregional teams heading into the stretch run towards the state playoffs. Sabino improved to 15-0 on the year and 7-0 in power-ranking games, giving the Sabercats a No. 4 Ranking in the 3A Conference.

Amphitheater (13-2, 8-0) is ranked No. 6 in the 4A Conference and Palo Verde (12-3, 8-1) in ranked No. 9. Casteel (13-4, 6-3) is ranked No. 8 in the 5A Conference. Gregory School (16-2, 9-0) is ranked No. 3 in the 1A Conference.

Bisbee went 2-1 at the Tombstone Tournament. The Pumas are ranked No. 24 in the 2A Conference, San Manuel is ranked No. 18 and Tombstone is No. 22.
