Bailey Thompson (WAC Graphic)

Bailey Thompson (Canyon del Oro) was named WAC Hitter of the Week for Seattle.

Thompson hit .615 (8-for-13) with a 1.846 slugging percentage as she posted a double, five home runs and 11 RBIs as the Redhawks went 5-0 at the Rebel Classic for Seattle U’s first 5-0 non-conference weekend since 2014. She also added six runs scored, three walks and 24 total bases. Thompson had an extra-base hit in all five games, with a home run in four of the five games and three games with three RBIs. In the final game of the weekend, she was 3-for-3 with a pair of homers against Weber State. After her monster weekend, Thompson leads the WAC in home runs (6) and ranks second in slugging percentage (1.292), RBIs (13) and total bases (31).

Brianna Aguilar (Salpointe) of Grand Canyon went 1-1 with a 2.62 ERA to earn WAC Pitcher of the Week consideration. Kellye Springstead (Tanque Verde) of California Baptist led the WAC with 21 strikeouts over 20 innings pitched to earn Pitcher of the Week honors last week. Lexy Coons (Sahuaro) of Grand Canyon went 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA 13 strikeouts to earn consideration last week also.

Nick Gonzales (WAC Graphic)

Nick Gonzales (Cienega) went 16-of-22 from the plate with four home runs and 16 RBIs in an Aggie sweep of defending SWAC champion Texas Southern to earn WAC Hitter of the Week honors for New Mexico State.

The 2018 WAC Freshman of the Year had a perfect 5-for-5 night on Friday, driving in six RBIs with a pair of home runs in a 20-2 win. On Saturday, he went 8-for-12 with seven runs scored and five RBIs in a doubleheader sweep that saw NM State outscore TSU, 62-14. He followed that up with a 3-for-5 day on Sunday, driving in five RBIs in a seven-inning 16-3 win to clinch the sweep.

This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.

We recognized 164 athletes in 2018. We have 24 athletes recognized this year so far.
