Abram Carrasco & Robert Wilson earn All-ACCAC honors; Chloe Gavino earns WAC honor

Abram Carrasco (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

Pima Community College men’s basketball sophomores Abram Carrasco (Cholla) and Robert Wilson (Salpointe) received recognition from the ACCAC conference for their play this season.

Carrasco, a guard, finished second in the voting for ACCAC Player of the Year as he earned first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II.

Carrasco is second on the Pima men’s basketball all-time career scoring list with 1,229 points. He needs 12 points to pass Greg Cook, who finished with 1,240 career points in 1980. Prior to Tuesday’s game at Glendale, Carrasco was averaging 21.1 points to lead the ACCAC. He was also averaging 4.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He played and started in all 30 games.

Wilson, a forward, was also selected second team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II.

Robert Wilson (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

He had 14 double-doubles on the season and averaged double digits in points and rebounds with 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds to go along with 3.2 assists. Wilson led the ACCAC conference in three-point percentage at 49.1 percent. He played and started in all 30 games.

Chloe Gavino (NM State)

Chloe Gavino, a freshman from Catalina Foothills, was named Women’s Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week for Feb. 19-25 for New Mexico State. Gavino has now won seven straight doubles matches with three different teammates.

This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.

We recognized 164 athletes in 2018. We have 27 athletes recognized this year so far.
