Marcus Castillo honored by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame awarded the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award to former Mountain View standout Marcus Castillo. According to the Hall of Fame, the award is presented to a high school senior based on outstanding wrestling success, scholastic achievement and citizenship or community service. Former Sunnyside standout Roman Bravo-Young earned the distinction last year and former Ironwood Ridge standout Danny Vega earned the award in 2016.

Former Sunnyside standout Kory DeBerry received the award in 2011 and his brother, Kyle DeBerry, earned it in 2007. Former Sunnyside standout Nick Gallick earned the award in 2005 and his brother, Nate Gallick, earned it in 2001. Salpointe’s Nick Frost earned the award in 1999. Sunnyside’s Eric Larkin earned it in 1998.

In addition, the National Wrestling Coaches Association honored 11 student-athletes from Arizona with the NWCA/USMC Scholastic Scholar All-American Award:
