Sahuaro Girls Hoops to Play for Championship in San Diego Classic

Sahuaro High School’s team experience in the summer comes to a close today with its championship game in the San Diego Classic against Riverside (Calif.) King High School.

The Cougars, under coach Steve Botkin‘s direction, have defeated South Torrance (Calif.) and Foothill (Calif.) to reach the title game, which is at 1 p.m. at Alliant International University.

The three top performers for Sahuaro will all be juniors this upcoming season — forwards Alyssa Brown and Lilly Watson and guard Lucky Franke.

Brown’s mother Lisa Moore provided this video of each of Sahuaro’s players introducing themselves:

Many of the players who participated in Sahuaro’s semifinal appearance in the 4A state tournament are with the summer team. Seton Catholic, which reached the championship (where it was beaten by Shadow Mountain), lost to Riverside King in a semifinal of the San Diego Classic.

After this experience, many of Sahuaro’s players will participate for their respective traveling club team in July. Brown, 6-foot-1, is a player who is garnering attention from Division I coaches. When July is over, expect her to get more scholarship offers.
