Sunnyside’s Manuel Quiroz, who led the Blue Devils to their first Class 5A state title in 2018-19 with 39 goals and 21 assists, has been honored as a United Soccer Coaches Boys Winter-Spring All-American.
Quiroz, the AllSportsTucson.com 5A Player of the Year, was one of the state’s leaders with 99 points (two points for a goal and one for an assist). He averaged 1.5 goals a game for the Blue Devils, who finished 24-0-1 and were ranked in the top 10 nationally by USA Today most of the season.
Quiroz will play for Yavapai Community College starting this fall.
“I’m really proud of the kid and I think it’s amazing he was named an actual All-American,” Sunnyside coach Casey O’Brien said.
Quiroz will receive an invitation to attend the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony in Baltimore on Jan. 28, honoring all of the All-Americans for youth, high school and college soccer in 2019. The event will take place in conjunction with the annual United Soccer Coaches Convention at the Baltimore Convention Center.
