Tucson Conquistadores High School Football Rewind: Top Performers From Week Five


Salpointe 62, Tucson 0

SALPOINTE

— RB Bijan Robinson, 8 rushes for 282 yards with four touchdown runs of 47, 60, 50 and 92 yards. Broke Ka’Deem Carey’s city record of 5,701 yards. Robinson now has 5,794 yards rushing in his career, bringing him to only 84 yards shy of the Arizona big-school (Class 4A-6A) record of 5,878 set by former Tolleson standout Marcus Thomas from 1999-2002. In only four games this season, Robinson has 993 yards on 39 carries, an average of 25.5 yards a carry. He also has 17 touchdowns.

— FS/WR Lathan Ransom had a 38-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 22-yard TD reception. He also had four tackles, one for loss.

— RB David Cordero had two carries for 77 yards, including a 70-yard sprint for a TD.

— LB Trent Strong had a team-high eight tackles.

— DB Charlie Raetzman had his third interception of the season and he broke up two passes.

Nogales improved to 4-1 overall and open region play Friday hosting Ironwood Ridge.

BUENA

— QB Jovoni Borbon had 108 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown and he also had two interceptions as a safety. Borbon is 237 passing yards shy of 5,000 in his career.

— RB Tory Walters rushed 11 times for 75 yards and a TD.

— LB Jesse Avina had a team-high 13 tackles, including one for a loss.

Cienega 14, Mountain View 0

CIENEGA

— RB Gabe Levy had 141 yards rushing on 21 carries with a TD.

— CB Traivian Denetso had seven tackles including two for loss.

— DE Damaggio Strevay had nine tackles and two sacks.

Ironwood Ridge 44, Desert View 0

IRONWOOD RIDGE

— RB Brandon Barrios had 19 carries for 168 yards and four TDs.

Sahuaro 33, Sunnyside 22

Sahuaro holds an 19-14-1 record over Sunnyside dating back to 1968 including the last seven in a row.

SUNNYSIDE

— QB Deion Conde completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

— RB Martin Arvizu had 15 carries for 148 yards with two touchdowns.

Rincon is above .500 (3-2) at the midway point of the season for the first time since 2012.

— LB Will Parker had six tackles including two for loss.

— DB Zach Ford had an interception.

Walden Grove 49, Glendale 6

— QB Alex Lopez completed 16 of 22 passes for 335 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed three times for 47 yards

— RB/LB Sam Martinez carried the ball 10 times for 65 yards and a TD. He also had eight tackles, two for loss.

— LB Rick Avelar III had 16 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and he blocked a field goal.

— WR/S Jordan Lopez had seven catches for 152 yards and two TDs. He also had two interceptions.

— DL Thomas Welky had 10 tackles, 3.5 for loss.

— LB Ismael Gallardo had 13 tackles, 2.5 for loss.

Benjamin Franklin 20, Sabino 14

SABINO

— QB A.J. Skaggs completed 14 of 22 passes for 140 yards with one TD.

— RB/LB Danny McAllister rushed 10 times for 78 yards and had 14 tackles.

— WR/DB Diego Armijo had six receptions for 82 yards and had a team-high 15 tackles.

Pusch Ridge 21, Fountain Hills 14

PUSCH RIDGE

— DB Antone Brack had seven tackles including one for loss and had two interceptions.

— RB Evan Lovett had 12 carries for 51 yards and two TDs.

Coolidge 53, Catalina 0

Coolidge beat Catalina 39-20 last year.

TANQUE VERDE

— DB Isaac Malott had two interceptions and 100 all-purpose yards.

— LB Brayden Scott, a freshman, led his team with nine tackles.

Sahuarita 28, San Tan Foothills 26

SAHUARITA

— RB Bryce Williams rushed for 82 yards on seven carries, including a 72-yard TD.

— LB Michael Molio’o had 20 tackles, four for lost yards, and five quarterback hurries.

Benson 53, Heritage Academy 7

— RB Dondre Villalobos rushed for 150 yards on 11 carries with two TDs.

— RB Carson Barney had 89 yards on 10 carries with two TDs.

— WR Diego Nikitas caught three passes for 100 yards.

— LB Cameron McFarland had 12 tackles, one for loss.

Morenci 32 Bisbee 26

— QB R.J. Wright completed 12 of 17 passes for 189 yards with a TD and interception.

— RB Hunter Perry rushed 20 times for 137 yards and a TD.

— RB David Ballesteros had 84 yards on nine carries with a TD.

— WR Dano Lopez had eight catches for 122 yards with a TD.

Pima holds a 14-8 record over Tombstone dating back to 1985.

Arizona Lutheran is 2-1 against Willcox.

Santa Rita with two wins in a season for the first time since 2012.

Santa Cruz Valley 21, Thatcher 14

— RB/LB Hunter Ogle rushed 23 times for 89 yards and two TDs. Also had 11 tackles.

— DE Mauricio Lopez had 11 tackles.

Duncan 28, St. David 18

ST. DAVID

— QB Logan Davis completed 21 of 29 passes for 175 yards with one TD and one INT.

— RB/LB Talon Haynie carried the ball 14 times for 105 yards. He also had 17 tackles.

— WR/DB Kason Jacquez had eight catches for 72 yards and 2 TDs. He also had 12 tackles, three for loss.

— WR Robby Gooding had seven catches for 60 yards.

Fort Thomas 62, Valley Union 22

Valley Union is 7-6 against Ft. Thomas dating back to 1984.
