Arizona Wildcats Dominate UCLA in 3-0 Victory

Coming into Thursday night’s game Arizona lost a tough conference opener to Colorado 2-1 in a game that went into extra time, ending in a penalty kick. Arizona was out shot in the game 17 to 11, leaving freshman Hope Hisey trying to keep her team in the game with save after save.

Thursday night was a completely different story as the offense lead by Jada Talley and Brooke Wilson was on constant attack mode, keeping pressure off of Hisey. In the 27th minute Talley got a one on one scoring chance against the UCLA goalkeeper, Talley worked her way around her leaving the net wide open for her to put Arizona up 1-0 early in the match. That was one of her two goals in the match.

After a things went silent, with both team in a constant fight for possession Wilson decided to take things in her own hands in the 67th minute. Wilson launched a shot that can only be described as a rocket from well past 30 yards out into the back of the neat sending the crowd into disbelief from what they just witnessed.

Finally Talley scored her second goal of the match in the 84th minute putting exclamation point on what is the win of the season thus far. One thing that can not go over look is the defensive effort by Arizona’s back line and goalkeeper Hisey who had four pivotal saves throughout the game in key moments.

Arizona has only beaten UCLA twice in their history, the last time came in 2004. So, you could say this was a historic night for the program that has been on the raise under coach Tony Amato. After the game coach Amato talked about the all-round effort that lead up to the game, and how that translated on the field.

The games won’t get any easier for Arizona as they play USC this Sunday at 7noon to finish the homestand. Arizona as of now sits at 7-2 (1-1) through the half was point of the season.
